Geoff, Jade & Goody's Eurotrip
Dear Subscribers,
We left Riomaggiore for Pisa for the day, then on to Florence. Pisa was a 3 hour stop, enough time to check out the leaning tower of Pisa and take the standard tourists pics holding up the tower. It was pretty funny watching about 5,000 other tourists doing exactly the same thing, trying to get the camera angle right and take the picture without people wondering straight in front of their view.
Once we had all had our turn we headed back to the train for Florence. The next day was started with a 2 ½ hour wait to get into the Uffizi Museum. (Oh, anyone that's heading to Florence, there is a number you can call to make rervation so you don't have to line up! Information that would have been extremely helpful to us!) Once in it was well worth the wait. We saw some amazing artwork from most of the Ninja Turtles and other famous architects, like the Botteicelli's 'Birth of Venice', the 'Annunciation' by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo's 'Holy Family'. They were really just spectacular to see, it was like they were photographs but with more colour and detail. We did have the intentions of going to the Academia Museum to see Michelangelo's 'David' but after spending the best part of 6 hours in front of, and in the Uffizi we were all museum'ed out for the day!
That night we ran into Mike and Erin (from Chicago), who were our roomies a few nights before in Cinque Terre, they had just been to the David and said it was worth checking out. The next day, after another 2 ½ hour line (same number people!) we saw why the David was a must see. It was absolutely just amazing, a 5 metre marble statue that was that life-like you would think it was going to walk away! When we were told Michelangelo spent 2 years studying anatomy, it was definately easy to believe with the amount of detail put into it. We spent the best part of an hour just looking at the statue and even managed to sneak a few pics.
