Geoff, Jade & Goody's Eurotrip
Hey Subscribers,
From Florence it was onto Rome where we were headed to the camping ground, this meant a pool, and after some great weather it we couldn't ask for much more and made full use of it that afternoon!
The next day was spent in Rome which was about 20-30 minutes from where we were staying. We headed straight to the Colosseum and Palitine Hill for guided tour. A guided tour was a good way to be able to learn the most from the experience. For instance, it was built in 72-80 A.C. and used exclusively for gladiator fighting for over 150 days a year from 8am-2pm until the about 580 A.C. when Catholicism was taken on by the Roman's and it was deemed inhuman. There's some history for you all and it also put the movie Gladiator into more of a perspective! One amazing fact is that it could seat 80,000 people and only took 20 minutes to get everyone in and another 20 to get everyone out, cant imagine that ever happening at the 'G'!
From the colosseum it was to Vatican City (the worlds smallest country) and St. Peter's Church. While Jarrod and I only weren't allowed in wearing singlet's, the girls said they were impressed by what the saw.
That night we caught up with Mike and Erin as they arrived at the camping ground and had a few drinks with them and several other Aussies including a couple from Tarwin Lower and a girl from Warragul (small world!).
The next day it was back into Rome to see the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican (wearing a t-shirt for the day!). While there were some great pieces of work from Raphael, although the main attraction was Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. It is something that pictures don't capture and me trying to describe it wouldn't give it true justice. Michelangelo was actually forced to paint the Chapel and as it was on the roof, went blind finishing as paint continually dript in his eyes.
From there it was onto the Vatican for Jarrod, Mike, Erin and I while the girls went into Rome. St Peters church left the 4 of us speechless. There was no way known that we covered even half of the 16th century church in the 2-3 hours we spent in there.
That night we ventured back to Rome for dinner and got to see two monuments that look spectacular at night, the Trivi Fountain and the Spanish Steps.
