Another scorching hot day.......continuing on our medievil quest we headed southeast to the walled city of Carcassonne. Perched on a hilltop it looked very impressive from the outside - unfortunately inside it was an over-priced bazzar full of very sweaty tourists. Got quite cooked. Countryside was more sunflowers but now starting to see substantial vineyards too. Headed back into Toulouse for a closer look but their roadworks made sightseeing very difficult. F...

Too hot in Toulouse so maybe a trip into the Pyrenees would be cooler.........so much for that theory...39 today. Very prehistoric area. Went to the caves at Niaux to see the cave paintings. .........all booked out for the week! Luckily, we arrived just in time to be shortlisted for a tour that was departing in 5 minutes, and the group that was booked didn't arrive....so we got to go in. Time to head south. Thought we'd go and find Tana Umanga in Toulouse. Topography, climate and house styles change as you get further south......hotter, hillier and the houses appeared more spacious and spread-out. Etap Hotel was about 20 minutes out of the city centre in Labege. Very small room, but thankfully was airconditioned. Ventured into city late in the day for a quick look. Much nicer than Paris at first glance. Ended up getting a pizza for dinner - shop...
