Following a tip, we're off to Rocamadour before we head off to Italy and Switzerland. Perched high on a cliff-top above a dry river valley, they place was a bit like Carcassonne, but more pleasant and less commercial. Sweltering hot day again so we used their little train, lift and cable car to get up to the Chateau. Had a good look around - stunning views. Decided we could walk down and took lunch in the shade in the town square.
John had mentioned that we should also go to Laguiole to get a souvenir of France - a Laguiole knife - evidently you're not French if you haven't got one! Took a scenic backroad and Ian got to play rally driver a bit. Unfortunately there was no room at the inn and the town was closing for the day. Luckily the first knife shop we went into was accommodating and let us stay and choose a knife each - and we got to meet the master cutler. Had a cold beer before setting off further south to try and find somewhere to stop for the night. Eventually we spotted an hotel off a motorway services in Le Caylar, fortunately they had two rooms left. Dinner was sandwhiches from the petrol station.
