Day 34 08/07/2013 Whale Song to Broome (again!)
It was a warm night, and even though we 'slept in' again, we didn't miss the sunrise as it was cloudy this morning. We had breakfast and then packed up. We didn't rush, but were on the road by 8.30am. After negotiating the 34 km or so of sandy road conditions we hit the sealed road again. We took an 8 km round trip detour to the community of Beagle Bay where we visited the Sacred Heart church, noted for its mother-of-pearl altar. Whilst there it started to rain .....just a little....we were hoping that it wouldn't get any heavier since we still had about 90km of sandy road ahead! Fortunately the clouds passed over us and we made it back to Broome, no problems!
We headed for Gantheaume Point and had an early lunch there....eating up all our perishable food!
We then drove back into town and were able to check in to our hotel. After dropping off our bags and settling in, we drove our vehicle and camper trailer to the storage facility. We were able to walk back to hotel, and it was good to have the exercise. On the way back we saw a young Aboriginal man stop his bike under a big shady tree and begin to pick up things from the ground. We were intrigued, so we stopped and asked him what he was collecting. He told us that they were bush apples, which any local would know about. He offered us some to try...which we did...they were tasty. They were about the size of grapes. He also warned us that if we were picking them from the tree, and not the ground, we should be careful of the leaves because they have spikes on them!
Back at the hotel we cooled off in the pool and then enjoyed long, hot showers....and we didn't have to worry that someone else was waiting!!!!
We had an early dinner. Caught up with phone calls and emails, and watched some TV. Britons are celebrating a win at Wimbledon ! Very exciting. There will be no blogs for a while......but this is not the end!!!! Looking forward to our 8 day cruise tomorrow.
