Emma & Fuzzy's Travels
Hi folks! It's been a very busy couple of weeks, now that we are in the land of the working. Fuz is still at the stockbrokers and I have started in the dreaded telesales office. It is hell! I would much rather be working at Pinneys than in a call centre. I am selling credit card insurance to people who, if they actually wanted it, would go and get it themselves. The guy who trained us for the job is an absolute ****. He looks like Ralph Little (Royle Family) but believes he is more of a Brad Pitt. Anyway, for two days we basically had to listen to how cool he is and how many sales he can make and then were sent on to the phones. I have had some very rude people, but I don't think they are as bad as the British. I don't mind people just hanging up, it's the profanities that preceed the hang up that really get up my nose!! On the upside, I am in Sydney, I do walk to work in the sunshine every day and the girls I am working with are spot on and enjoy a glass of wine and a night out as much as me! Every cloud and all that! Work is also providing us with an all expenses paid night out on Friday (food, drink and karaoke), so I am sticking with it until I get my free night.
We moved in to our new digs on Saturday, after viewing some very manky places we decided to move about two streets away from our hostel. When we viewed the house it looked grand and the 7 housemates were really friendly. However, it was dark when we looked at it, and in the cold light of day it is actually probably dirtier than the ones we turned our nose up. But as Fuz says - twice the dirt but half the price! The other travellers here are spot on. There are 4 Irish, one African, one English, a Scottish girl (but she sounds like she's from Cornwall and not Inverness as she claims) and us. There is also an Irish stoaway sleeping on the couch because he is skint. However, his uncle is the 5th richest man in Ireland (but he says I can't name him!) and apparently very famous (all the boys knew who he was, so that might give a clue...guesses on a postcard!). The cleanliness of the house is improving and Fuz gave our room a good scrubbing on Sunday morning and I threw straight bleach around the bathroom. I also had a 'quiet' word with the two boys we are sharing a bathroom with and it has improved, but I think i may have to don the marigolds and get stuck into it at the weekend. There is another lad here who has been on the Irish equivalent of Watchdog for setting up some dogdy scheme involving envelope stuffing, cash deposits and P.O boxes which made us laugh alot!
We are planning a big birthday bash for Fuz on Saturday, invovling a home made barbecue and boxes of cheap plonk. It is also one of the other lads birthday, so it will be a double bash. I think we are going to go out on the town as well, so that will be good. We haven't really been out in the centre yet, so I am quite looking forward to it. Anyway, I better go because I am heading to the place I lovingly refer to as the hell hole (work).
Loving the message boards - especially the hints and tips! Keep them coming and we'll keep you informed of our adventures. Lots of love, Em and Fuz.X
