Bonjour! Having been in Margaret River for two weeks and camping in what can only be described as a French colony (lots of French people come to Oz to pick fruit apparently), it was a relief to get back on the road. Fuz and I worked for the majority of the two weeks at a wine bottling plant on night shift (back breaking, tedious, extremely low paid and far from fun) and in the mornings at a vineyard picking grapes (think of us the next time you are tucking into your Western Australian chardonnay). However, we spent very little and earned enough to get up fuelled up and ready for the next leg of the tour. We left Margaret River and headed along the coast to the beautiful cape le grand national park (higly recommended by James) and camped at Lucky Bay. The weather was disappointing to say the least (it was baltic at night and the sun only came out the day we were heading off), but the national park was far from dissappointing. The numerous bays were all gorgeous and there were some lovely walks and traks. We stayed a couple of days and my highlight was seeing two kangaroos on the beach at Lucky Bay (see photos). They even stayed long enough for me to run back to the van, get the camera, run back and take 3 pictures. I was well chuffed! After a couple of days we headed off again to make the long, boring drive to Adelaide. We had to cross the Nullarbor plain again (people think you are either mad or some kind of hero if you cross it once) but we got the heads down and just drove and drove and drove. We arrived in Adelaide and met up with Ally Clumph again. Johnny the Manc (a friend of a friend who is now our buddy and happened to have stayed with us in Edinburgh a couple of times) kindly put us up in Glenelg and even better became our tour guide for our duration in Adelaide. Adelaide was quite a nice city, but Glenelg where John has emigrated to is really nice. It's a beach town with lots of nice shops and eateries and pubs. We spent our time in Adelaide sight seeing, wine tasting and nature spotting (and of course eating and drinking). No surf in Adelaide (or not close enough), so although Fuz liked it, he was hankering to get into the surf. There are a bit too many sharks in SA for me to have been overly comfortable in the water! After a lovely long weekend with Johnny, we got back on the road, with Ally clumph in tow and headed along the great ocean road. It was every bit as beautiful as imagined and the 12 Apostles are really something to see, as are all the other beauty spots and tourist attractions. We camped the first night at a national park in the Grampians, which was really picturesque. The temperature really dropped in the hills and I'm sure the Clumph was pleased we persuaded him to buy a woolly blanket from the salvos, otherwise there could have been a serious case of frost bite! There are lots of places to stop off for picture opportunites and I think I may have used a fair amount of my camera memory on the Great Ocean Road.
Heading off just now, hope all is well on the other side of the wolrd. lots of loveXXXX
