Emma & Fuzzy's Travels
Hello! We have arrived in Sydney, Australia safe and sound and without too much more baggage than when we started. After being in Singapore airport, which is meticulously clean with every kind of service you would ever want (massages, haircuts, a swimming pool), Sydney airport felt like things were back to 'normal' - grumpy faces, grimy surfaces and toilets that you have to flush by yourself. We phoned for the pick up service and were met by a man who can only be described as a cross between Frank from 'Father of the Bride' and Raoull from the adverts (you know the one where he is in his speedos trying to impress the ladies?!). Anyways, this guy was Russian and clearly more than slightly mad! We actually thought it might have been some kind of you've been framed moment, but no, he was genuine. He waved his hands around alot and sped off with our trolley with our luggage on, indicating with hands signs that we hould follow him, which of course we did. We then got into a minibus with a man who could possible have jsut been released from a Russian prison - scary biscuit who drove like a lunatic (yes, even worse than me). He dumped us at our hostel and then wheel spun off with the rest of the victims/ passengers. The hostel we are in is called the funk house and is in the heart of Kings Cross. Kings Cross is the red light district, which i was not aware of before arrival, but am pretty sure Fuzzy knew the craic! It is a busy area with loads of hostels and backpackers. The room we are in is quite good and the rest of the facilites are okay too. We've done a little bit of exploring and the city centre is really nice, as is the harbour area. The nightlife is immense. Our room over looks a main street and there is plenty of people watching to be done. There are loads of hookers wandering around and surprisingly none of them resemble Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. The ladies of the night actually work day and night here, so it's a fairly busy place thorugh the day as well!
I have managed to do a little bit of shopping here too (Fuz has suggested my next purchse should be another rucksack), but it's not as cheap as Singapore or Malaysia.
It is now time to look for a job! Don't know what I will end up doing, but will keep you all posted. Cheerio for now!X P.S Am loving hearing from yous on the message board - keep it up! Love and kisses to Millie-AnnX
