Gidday readers. It was with mixed feelings that we left Esperance as it was a perfect day with still a few more interesting things to see but as the forecast was for high winds in Kalgoorlie we headed north. As it turned out the cross wind soon became strong which makes driving a large vehicle interesting. Arriving at Norseman which is about 2 hours driving and 1/2 way and with it being Sunday it was closed with only the pub open. The temp was about 35 deg and it was very tempting to have a cold beer but with another 2 hours driving ahead we made lunch and carried on after a quick tour of the town lookout with lots of facts about the place. The road to Kalgoorlie was very long and straight with trees and scrub lining the road through country that just got drier as we went and the van's cruise control air con and stereo getting a good workout. We both liked the look of the town when we saw it but it was straight to the camp, settle in and an early night. Next morning after a trip to the visitors centre we drew up a wish list of the main attractions that interested us.
They have a brothel tour that Steph wanted to go on, I would have been happy spending an hour at Supercheap Auto by myself but as Steph did not want to go by herself I agreed to go too. The things I have to do to keep her happy! Most of the 10 couples on the tour were over 50 and there was lots of giggles and laughs even before we went inside. The tour started with us all sitting in the parlour and introducing ourselves with where we were from and professions. Next the Madam handed around (new and unused) sex toys with full descriptions of how they were used and all about sizes, all very humorous and entertaining with lots of true stories. We were given a full history of the towns brothel's from way back when the gold rush started with nothing left out. There were actually some very sad facts about how some of the girls were duped into being there with no escape and the conditions they had to endure. After a hour of stories on just about every thing about the services they provide including prices and with all questions answered we headed up the hallway. The talk and tour of all the themed rooms were very interesting to say the least, and the price some guys are prepared to pay for being tied up and spanked is just about unbelievable. We all snapped some very interesting photos of the rooms and after about an hour and a half of fun and laughs we reckon that we all had better value for money ($20) than the regular customers get !!! I have to admit that it turned out a lot better than Supercheap Auto ! ! !
Next morning we were running late and held up the bus for the Superpit Mine tour, we had to run a block after parking the van in the back streets. We knew the pit was big but the size in just amazing and with the bus driving around the whole site explaining everything from digging the rock out to refining the gold. We were able to get out at all the viewing points to take photos. The facts are just mind boggling with a price given on the cost of everything which is just too much to take in. For instance ( 30 dump trucks running 24/7,carrying 250 tonnes of rock per load, burning 140 litres of diesel per hour and on average the operation recovers about 2000 ounces of gold a day!) The 2 1/2 hour tour was just fantastic and the size of the operation quite unbelievable !
That night we treated ourselves to a meal out for a change at a town pub and all started good with a drink at the bar but as it turned out it was a skimpy bar and a barmaid came out wearing a G string and a similar amount of material on top that left nothing to the imagination.
The meal in the restaurant was the best we have had for a long time and was a real treat. Had a drink and a chat with a local so all in all a good night.
Wednesday was a day off with a easy day around camp and then invited the neighbours for a happy hour with us. Today we started to head back to Perth, ( it's only 12 more sleeps till we fly back to NZ !!!) which is a bit sad but we both think its time and it will be good being back with family and friends again.
Talk soon. Xxx
