Greetings. Arrived in Kalbarri after a nights freedom camping and we found ourselves leaving the bushy plains and into grass farmland paddocks with sheep which looks more like NZ. The camp in Kalbarri was opposite the beach in this lovely small seaside town with a river flowing into the sea through a rather dicey bar which tested all the boats that dared to cross it. Some of the walks around the sea side cliffs were amazing and we were still able to see whales splashing in the distance. After having no luck fishing with many others including many hopeful pelicans, we opted for fish and chips, snapper fillets that were expensive but huge and very tasty, you only need one and we even left most of the yummy chips. After 3 great days here we purchased some more fresh snapper from a fishing boat which will give us a few feeds. Before leaving town we called in at a large parrot aviary which blew us away by the types and colours of these amazing birds from all around the world. A breeding pair of macaws sell for up to $30,000 and the bright colours were unbelievable and with some birds that liked to talk to you they had no trouble entertaining us for over a hour.
Next stop was at a farm station where you park anywhere in a paddock for $9 each which included toilets and showers and I enjoyed a good chat and drink with a lively 70 year old who was a keen fisherman, horse whisperer and a x rodeo rider who has two different types of cancer and still out there doing it ! Today we cruised into Geraldton and had a enjoyable afternoon walking around the marina and through the town. You can buy freshly cooked prawn tails which are just the meat and are great value for $26 a kilo at the marina so looks like we will be having a few feeds of them, yummy !
This town looks perfect for spending a few days in with lots to see and the weather although partly cloudy with sun is still warm enough to enjoy in shorts and tee shirt should be very enjoyable.
cheers for now. Xxx
