Well we left Katherine on Sunday morning and headed west. Chris was happy driving so we did just over 300 kms and stopped at a roadside free camp in the middle of nowhere where we spent a lovely night sitting under the stars for ages. A couple came over and started talking to us,where have you been etc as people do. Turned out they had been on a Yellow River Cruise also. I said I got a great picture of a croc and showed it to them. He then went and got his phone and had an absolutely identical picture to mine. Turns out they were on the same cruise sitting 2 rows in front of us!!!!
The next morning we headed off and crossed the border into Western Australia where we had to stop at a Quarantine Checkpoint where they come into you van and search for any hidden fruit and veges. We know the rules now so had discarded what we couldn't take (lettuce tomatoes cucumber etc) cooked the potatoes to have for chips and eaten 6 mandarins and a banana on the way. Then he said don't forget to change your watch,so it was back an hour and a half again so we are now 4 hours different from you,so it was only 9.30am. Made for a very long day indeed and it gets light about 5.30 and dark about 5.30 so quite different to what we had been used to.
We then turned off the main road and drove into Lake Argyle where we stayed a couple of nights and went on a breakfast lake cruise which was very informative. We saw quite a few crocs birds and fed hundreds of blind catfish which I'm sure the crocs love!!The lake is man made and feeds the Ord river for year round irrigation of crops chia seeds and sandalwood trees and lots of other things on land that would otherwise be unproductive.
The picture shown is of the infinity pool where we camped and you can see for miles over the lake and majestic hills surrounding it. Then this morning it was off to Kununarra where we are now sweltering but more about that next blog.
