Ok, just wanted to post an update. Absoloutely the busiest and most exciting week ive had here so far.
3/14 Friday: went with a few friends to go surfing for the day at Torquay. It is the closest place to go surfing from Melbourne, since you have to leave the bay area. It takes about an hour and a half on a train and bus to get there from downtown. Rented surfboards for the day. Unbelieveable waves. Im definitely getting better at surfing (even though its only my second time).
Saturday: woke up relatively early and went to the Flemmington Racecourse with a bunch of friends. It is a thouroughbred track much like Saratoga, but alot smaller. Won $75 on my first bets there. Not too shabby considering I messed them up at the machine on accident.
Sunday: Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne. Another all day event. Formula 1 is one of the biggest sports in the world, and I can see why. It is unreal how loud and powerful these cars are. The views from the cockpit is actually like playing a video game, but its real, and your driving a car worth at least a few hundred thousand dollars. They are so incredibly loud. History was made today, only 6 cars out of a field of 22 finished. a record for Formula 1.
Monday: St Patricks Day. I dont care what the pope says, Its March 17th in my book. Went on a pub crawl to all the irish pubs in the city. Started early, ended late. Lots of Guinness and Killkenny. Enough said.
Tuesday: For one of my classes, we went on a surf field trip. Left at 7am for Angelsea to get surfing lessons. I was in the ocean by 9am. Awesome. Next we went to Bells Beach to see the Rip Curl Pro surf Competetion. Unfortunately they cancelled it for the day becsuse the waves werent big enough. Still a bunch of pros out there practicing. Also went to the Surfing Museum. Not bad for class.
Wednesday: Another class trip. This time to the Shrine of Rememberance. Its the Aussie war memorial. Pretty unbelievable stuff. Lots of amazing statues. Lots of symbolism incorporated into the building. Truly a monument to be proud of.
Very tiring week, but so worth it. Next week is vacation (like I really need one). Leaving Sunday and flying to Frasier Island for 3 days 2 nights of camping and 4x4ing around the island. Then a bus trip to the Whitsunday Islands where we take a 3 day 3 night cruise to the outer reef. Dosent get much better than this!
