Melbourne Welcome Orientation Program: Ormond College, University of Melbourne.
This week was the Melbourne Welcome program paid for by Villanova. It is for international students, and we got a chance to stay at one of the elite University Colleges. They are basically all inclusive communities that have housing, food, study, and recreational facilities for its members. It is very difficult to get into these due to their exclusive nature.
The organizers had a number of activities lined up for us. it was basically like going back to summer camp as a kid, plus alcohol. Each morning we were up for breakfast at 8, followed by a daily activity and then another activity after dinner. Food and drinks were provided for us all week... a pretty sweet deal.
Trips included an animal sanctuary in the Yarra valley where we saw native animals. A trip to Ocean Grove beach where we took surfing lessons. And finally a trip into the city to the immigration museum. Nighttime activities included a pub crawl, quizzo, and theme parties. It was a good way to meet people and get your bearings around the school and city.
