Just returned from Easter Break. Did a 2 part trip up to Queensland with a few friends from the village.
Part 1: Fraser Island
Flew up to Hervey Bay to go camping and 4x4 offroading on Fraser Island for 3 days 2 nights. The four of us got paired up with 4 Germans and an Israeli guy. Awesome group... we got kicked out of our first car by a bunch of Frenchies. We basically had free reign to drive around the island as we pleased. Saw some of the most amazing sights. Some highlights: Lake McKenzie (the clearest water and whitest sand I have ever seen), Lake Waby (deep lake stuck inbetween a huge sand dune and a mountain), Lake Garowangera (clean, but tinted brown, like tea), Indian Head (oceanside point with amazing views of the island), Champagne Pools (oceanside pools that filled with bubbly water from the ocean break).
After this we took an overnight bus to Airlie Beach, one of the coolest backpacker towns in queensland. We took a 3 night sailing trip on a ship called the "Spank Me". We sailed around and eventually found ourselves at the Great Barrier Reef. Its just like on tv. Fish everywhere that swim up to you. I even found nemo. I got scuba diving lessons and got to dive twice. It may be the coolest thing ive ever done. Played underwater football with a sea cucumber. After 4 days on that boat with 25 people I was ready to be on dry land.
We then proceeded to take the longest, most convoluted, rediculously unnecessary trips home... it was great. 2 days and many $40 cab fares later (not to mention getting of the plane that was going to melbourne) we were back just in time for classes to begin.
