Deborahs journey
On Sunday i walked down to Circular quay with the girl in my room called Tami. THis is the quay where you can see the opera house and the harbour bridge so took all the neccesary photos!! We went inside the opera house and a did the hour tour. It is much bigger than i thought with 5 or 6 seperate theatres. We were able to go into 3 of the theatres. It was good to see the structure and the roof close up!!!!! After finishing the tour we walked around to the other end of the quay to 'the rocks' area where there is a weekend market. It was very busy and had lots of art and crafty stalls. After going back to the hostel and having dinner we went to the pub at 11 to grab a seat to watcht the england match. THe pub was packed with english people and a good atmosphere!!!
On Monday we went to Traveller contact point where we both have syndey arrival packages to collect my bank account details and free harbour cruise ticket. WE then walked down to circular quay and went on our habour cruise. It took along the harbour out to Watsons bay where we stopped and had fish and chips by the beach. This little area is famous for its fish restuarant and fish n chips, the beach wasnt very clean and lots of seagulls around eager to have our lunch!! An hour later we got on the next boat and went back across the harbour to the zoo. Here we got off and went up the gondola to the zoo. Its a big zoo with the usual animals and of course the Aussie animals. We just had enough time too walk around as it closed a 5pm. got the gondola back down and the ferry across to Darling Harbour. We got off there to walk back to the hostel as its nearer then circular quay.
On Tuesday i had a quiet morning, got photos devolped etc and went back to the hostel for lucnh. We had a welcome meeting to go to at TCP at 4pm so waited at the hostel till then. At 3pm the fire alarm went off so we all had t0 get out, the tumble drier on level 1 had caught fire and the sprinklers went off, flooding reception!!! we still werent back in the hostel at 3.30pm so we headed down to the meeting which told us all the neccessary information about tax and medicare etc!!
On wednesday afternoon we went to the aquarium at Darling harbour. Darling habour is really nice with loads of restuarants and cafes along the waterfront. The aquarium is good we saw the little penguins being fed and the seals. There is a large great barrier reef section with some beautiful fish there, could have watched them for ages. On the way back we went via the Fishmarket but it had closed by the time we got there.
On Thursday i applied for my tax file number and went to medicare to register there. Then we caught the ferry across to Manly. This is a suburb of sydney with a really long surf beach and like a little seaside town. we went to oceanworld as we had a 241 voucher but it ws just like a smaller older version of the aquarium. Then we walked to the beach where it was windy but no surf. had an icecream and headed back on the ferry which only take 20 minutes. THe ferrries are quiet old as have been running for many decades. In the evening we went out to Wagamamas for dinner to use another 241 voucher, not very aussie but it was nice and did talk to two aussie throughtout the meal as we are sat on long 'picnic benches'!!! Had an early night as bus leaves at 7am tomorrow
