Tuesday 23rd - Today i met up with my friend Moira who i met in New Zealand. She was in Sydney for the week visiting family. After having lunch in Hyde park we went to the SKy Tower and OZ trek. OZ trek is a virtual reality 'ride'. The first part shows the different lives across australia and the next part is where the seat moves and is supposed to feel like u are white water rafting, and at Uluru, the rainforest and Baron Gorge. The ride was ok was nice to see that ive visited all the places that were seen on the film. Then we headed up the lift to the obsevation deck of the tower. it was a nice clear day so could see quite far. It was surprising to see how much water actually surrounds Sydney
Thursday 25th - Big Day Out. Today i went to Olympic park showground for Big Day Out. This is a day long music festival that goes to the capital cities in NZ and OZ. I saw a few oz bands that i have heard of and a few that i hadnt. The main headliners were Kasabian, THe Killers and Muse. Luckily i didnt rain although i was cloudy. The atmosphere didnt feel the same as the festivals i been to back home. The queues were longer for the bar then the toilets!! Muse are big in the OZ and they were awesome. Felt a bit weird seeing my 'local' band in Sydney!!
Friday 26th - Australia Day. This is a huge public holiday right across Australia. Today the sun was shining and was a nice day tp sepnd down by the harbour watching all that was going on. The first thing that i saw as the Ferryathon. The ferries were all decked out with flags and banners and raced along the harbour from Fort Denison to Manly and back. At 12pm the army did a 21 gun salute from the botanic gardens. There were loads of boats decked out in flags sailing around the harbour. At 2pm a huge learjet flew over a few times. Then i walked up to Hyde park to see what was hapening up there. The streets were lined with loads of old classic cars. later iw alked back to the harbour to see 4 army guys do a parachute jump over the opera house and then watched the tall ship race. The tall ships were beautiful. There were 500000 people at the oz day celebrations in the city and it definatly felt like it!!
On saturday i had a lazy day watching the tennis finals. On sunday i was working and after i finished i went down to the Opera house to watch the mens final on the big screen there. there were more people than i expected to be there. it was a good atmosphere and glad i watched it there rather than in my flat.
Tueaday 30th - Today i went to the Museum of Sydney which is another place on my travel through time ticket. it is on the site of the first governemnt house, so there was an exhibition on the governers that lived there and a big exhibit on the harbour bridge as its celebrating its 75th annivesary. After i finished here i went to the state library to look at the two free exhibitions. One was called 'bound for glory' about 4 french explorers that came to oz during the 1800s and the other was called 'convicts on the run'. there was a small bit about a man that was tried in exter court! after i finished here as it was a hot sunny say i went for a walk around The Rocks and the harbour and an area i hadnt been before.
