Yesterday marked the one week point for our time here in Oberbierbronnen. Breakfast was served later (9:00) and we got to taste the fruit of our labour with some freshly made rosehip marmalade. This was the marmalade that I had been working on last week and it is some of the best stuff I have ever tasted. Rosehips have a very unique taste...nothing I have ever had before. After breakfast we lounged around drinking coffee as the weather was not the greatest. We were then treated to an unexpected Skype call from Tyler. We shared some stories and talked to him for over an hour. Apparently the plan is for Ty and the fam to meet us in Italy for Christmas (we will be working at a hostel there in December). In the afternoon the sun was shining and so Ryan and I went for a walk around the villages. We got a great view of the Alps and even found some more mushrooms on the side of the road. We spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning and preparing more quitten for making marmalade today. Dinner was delicious but nothing spectacular (homemade pizza). The highlight of the day however came after dinner with a special bottle of wine. Martin and Eliane have an AMAZING wine cellar with some very old bottles (I will get pictures soon). Late in the evening we popped the cork of a bottle of wine from 1988 (Ryan's birth year). Martin had bottled this wine himself 23 years ago. It was a unique white wine to which I cannot remember the name (I will have to go find the bottle to let you know). It was the first time I have drank wine older than myself. He also has some from 1989 (my birth year) so that cork popping is still to come.
