Yesterday Ryan and I arrived at our next stop to being our time as WWOOF'ers. We were picked up at the train station by Martin who drove us to his family's home in Oberbierbronnen, a small village of 7 homes in Weilheim. Just when I thought Germany could not get any more beautiful, we found ourselves in the Black Forrest, surrounded by trees, mountains, and picturesque farm houses on the hillsides...I will have to take pictures because words simply cannot describe it. We are at one of the most southern points of Germany and you can actually see the Swiss Alps in the distance. When we arrived at our new home, we were welcome like family. Eliane had prepared an amazing vegetarian stir-fry with organic vegetables and these delicious tiny purple potatoes that I have never seen before. The entire family was present, Martin, Eliane, and their 3 sons. We all sat around the large wooden table which marked the beginning of our time at Hof Wegwarte.
I have been here for less than 24 hours and I already have the feeling that I never want to leave. We were given a quick tour of the cafe last night which is filled with homemade jams, marmalades, and teas. Their home is full of wood and is absolutely beautiful...you can tell it is a family home. Since today is a national holiday in Germany, it is closed today but soon enough we will be able to see it in action. This morning began with breakfast at 7:30 which we all shared together. Ryan and I then learned that in addition to helping at our home here, we will be looking after a cow, two donkeys, and three sheep on a friend's farm when they are away on holiday. We met these animals this morning and the cow's name happened to be Rosie! Tonight we are going into Waldshut to watch Martin play in an orchestra...he plays the cello.
So far, I am loving life here and we are both eager to get to work. Martin and Eliane have been so welcoming too us and we really look forward to what we are going to learn and experience here on the farm.
This is the farm we are staying at:
