September 24
Following our customary run/walk, we met for breakfast at a place called Towne Center where I had french toast and Rita had salmon patties.
The plan for today was to visit the Acme Fall Festival about 15 miles from here.
We watched children enjoying a pony ride.
Saw lots of old vehicles, including tractors and automobiles.
Even listened to an antique calliope. Click on the image to hear it.
We went back to the North Peak Brewery for a snack and beer tasting; really great beers there, but many unhappy Spartan fans after their team was shellacked by the Wisconsin Badgers.
Went home and watched some UM football in the afternoon; much better results.
In the evening, we went to the Old Town Playhouse and enjoyed an old favorite:
September 25
Another nice and mostly sunny day. Rita and our next door neighbor Janet went for a walk after breakfast while I went over to the fitness center. Watched a little sports onTV, not surprised to see both the Tigers and the Lions being beaten.
Later in the afternoon, we drove to the Chateau Chantal Winery and enjoyed some more jazz in this beautiful setting. Click image to listen.
From here, we drove to a movie theater and saw “The Magnificent Seven”, a pretty bad film which people should not waste their money on. Violence from start to finish and acting about as flat as it can get, (except for the bad guy, who was actually quite good). Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Eli Wallach and the other great actors from the classic 1960 version are turning in their graves. Also, IMAX turns out to be just a huge screen with ear shattering volume, and you pay about double for it.
