September 7
Not unexpectedly, the weather started to turn bad today. This is, after all, the northern mid-west. Mostly a fairly relaxed day. We started by going to the courts and trying out our new pickle ball equipment. It was fun, although Rita did take a fall and hurt her left wrist, hopefully not too seriously. Later in the day it began to rain. Did manage to very much enjoy lunch at a brewery with really excellent beers.
With Rita’s wrist hurting, I helped out in the kitchen as we prepared a very nice pasta dish. Then drove out in the rain to enjoy an ice cream dessert. Several other people there, just showing how tough and fit these folks are.
We wrapped Rita’s wrist which she said helped. Might not be able to play golf tomorrow.
September 8
Although a mostly cloudy day, it did not rain. So, after a morning run, we met at a breakfast place called Morsels for coffee and bagels.
Later, we moved on to our golf at a course called Elmbrook, public, but very nice course. Fairly short course where I shot a round of 86. Rita could not play because of her wrist, so she served as a cart driver and caddy for me.
We then returned home and ate hot dogs for lunch.
The evening was quite interesting. At the downtown State Theater, the place where Michael Moore conducts an annual film festival, there was a showing of a film called “Dead Poets Society”. This was put on for free by the local County Mental Health Organization in observance of “Suicide Prevention Week”. This is a film starring Robin Williams which was released in 1989, but which we had never seen. It was an extraordinarily engrossing film which had suicide as a major part of the plot. This, being consistent with Williams’ own recent suicide, made it very appropriate as a mechanism to draw attention to this tragic and growing problem. We found the film quite intense.
Afterward, we had a late dinner in what is probably Traverse City's best restaurant, Red Ginger.

Sarah Barnes Oh dear, a hurt wrist, but still able to enjoy!! Take the wrist thing very easy, as it is the favorite injury of females of a certain age -- x-ray??
