Afternoon starts out sunny and 30 degrees. Heavy afternoon showers cool things down and persistent light rain is cooling. Go through the colloseum, Palatine Hil where the emperors lived, the Roman Forum, Caesar's burial site. Mariska avoids the best views - fear of heights.
The Colosseum was built over a lake that was part of Nero's huge palace. Emperor Verspacian filled in the lake and built the Colosseum in 4 years.
Russel Crowe came to the colosseum 2 years ago. 16 years after Gladiator was released. He was on stage fighting a 3D generated lion. Tickets were 1500 to 3000 for front row tickets.
The most expensive area to live in Rome is a block of apartments opposite the Palatine Hill where the emperors lived . The apartments are owned by the Ferrero family who own Ferrero Rocher, Nutella and other chocolate brands.
Tour finishes at 5, tour guide recommends local restaurants. Spaghetti was so-so. Walked to taxi stand and found that we were only 700m from the hotel so walked. Mariska needed gelato as she was still hungry.
