Breakfast and started to rain while we were eating. Passing good shower, probably the one time it rains in a year. Do nothing in the morning. Sit poolside watcing the caldera trying to catch up on medical education - obesity management. Really hard to concentrate. Decided to go to Fira in the afternoon. Breakfast and rested at the hotel. Taxi to Fira in the afternoon. Mariska bought all the summer shoes she would need in 1 shop. No lunch so we were hungry. Found a restaurant near the top of the town with steep drop to the port. Mariska managed to steel herself and tolerate the height. Fried squid to start, lobster with spaghetti, and moussaka. Buffet breakfast poolside. Taxi to Oia (pronounced Ee-yah} at the northern tip of the island. Postcard scenery of white buildings and blue domed churches clinging to cliffside with 180 degree caldera views. 6am drive in taxi from Sorrento to Naples airport. 1 hr 45min flight to santorini. Perfect cloudless blue skies and seas. Breathtaking view of the caldera from hotel - Xenones Filotera in Imerovigli. Pool & sunbake straight away. Mariska gets me drunk with a bottle of prosecco from Villa Jolanda. Drunk and out for the rest of the afternoon.
