After another night in the tent, we headed to Las Vegas via Death Valley.
Death Valley itself is so barren, we were not sure of what to expect especially after the amasing time we all had in Yosemite.
It was extremely hot, although a ranger did tell us that it was cool for the area - I think it reached 105 degrees while we were there - if not more! The highlight of the valley was 2 fold, the Salt Flats that span miles and miles and which are designated as the hottest place on earth! and the scenic drive through the valley itself. All well worth doing - just remember to bring lots of water - and a fridge is possible! Obviously we had none of these things so relied on warm ginger ale, yuk!
We exited the valley all very hot and bothered and headed to Las Vegas. We did try to get a cheap night in Caesers Palace - but at at rate of $350 a night we thought it was day light robbery. Ewan and Mindy were extremely excited about the city that never sleeps and immediatley set out to explore, while Dave and Megan were happy to have a night in a basic room for some well deserved rest.
Vegas is well Vegas... nothing really describes it better. Its a hive of drink, lights, sex and gambling. We caught up with Daves friend Azy and spent the day at the pool with her and her boyfriend Tommy - was great to see them. They had a pool where the water slide went through a shark filled tank! We gambled and actually left the tables up, on the Slot machines, Roulette and Black Jack. Megan won $15 from a single Dollar. It takes a good 2-3 days to expolre all that Vegas has to offer with so many free shows and casinos to explore - not to mention the shops.
We also got to visit the Pawn Stars shop in downtown Vegas and got to see the Old Man - if you havent seen it yet - it is facinating show on the history channel about a Pawn Shop - simple but very effective!
We left Vegas very happy to visitthe Grand Cayon and then LA
