Hi all.
So we jumped on a jet to Calgary. What we have been told of this place is it doesn't offer much but is the gateway to the Rockies. Honestly we haven’t found that at all. It’s a very small pretty city and is easily walkable, with a great island park called prince’s Island that was very beautiful.
We are staying with a friend of Dave’s called Kim, who lives just out of downtown. The hostel we chose was a bit dodgy to say the least - the HI Calgary City Centre in the midst of the homeless area! Nice! Anyhow Kim saved us from that one and has been a gracious host. We have walked the city, gone on a few outings including the zoo (with a full mechanical dinosaur exhibition), and made some new friends. A lovely couple Danielle and Matt with their 3 kids have made us feel very very welcome.
The Zoo was very cool with Snow leopards, Brown Bears, Red Pandas, Raptors and T-Rex's... seriously I am not lying. The food has been fantastic too, the beef is exquisite.
Anyhow it’s the Olympics now over here so every TV channel has been taken over with Canadian Pride - they love their hockey! We watched the whole Olympic opening ceremony, very intriguing (slightly dull).
So it’s off to the Rockies tomorrow - Banff here we come
