A day trip into the gorges and a few short walks mean a leisurely start. The first sight of the Gascoyne river is another oasis out the blue. Plenty of birdlife including many white cockatoos and black swans. Again no-one on the road and an impromptu stop for a photo of the range sees us parked about 100m from a kangaroo carcass being fought over by 3 very large kites. Watch through binocs for quite a while.
The first short walk takes us to a viewpoint overlooking the vast plain of scrub. Really starting to get the feel of the vastness of the country. The next walk takes us a short way up honeycomb gorge ( no guesses for what the rock looked like) until it simply stops at rock face. The heat and flies are just bearable.
Another walk up temple gorge, so named because of the pyramid like large rock at the end of the first part, ends in a similar fashion to the previous. ie simply "trail ends" at a rock face. These are not walks for views but the experience of walking in gorges, the only life we see is a flock of zebra finches.
Later in the day we get a fabulous view of a couple of small eagles with one eating its prey in the nest. It's been a hot, hard rock bird day, but enjoyable. Back to our ensuite for a Good Friday meal in isolation.
Our neighbours return late having had a 4WD over the top of the ranges,
Their pictures show how rough it is to get up there so don't think we'll be trying ig.
