When we arrived at Rainbow Beach we were still drunken messes, so after checking in we went straight for a lie down. The rest of that day was wasted on recovering. On the second day we had our orientation meeting for Fraser Island. We had to watch two very lame videos explaining about the island and where to camp, where to avoid, and how to deal with wildlife such as dingos. Basically, we would load our 4WD up the following morning with all the camping equipment and shopping we would need, then visit the work shop who would check it had been loaded correctly, who would then give us a safety talk and itinery to follow. There was an accident two days ago where 7 Japanese people crashed, one dying and the others critical, so safety was paramount and the centre of the talk. We were also given 3 rules to follow as well; 1- have fun, 2- arrive alive, 3- say something (referring to speaking up if the driver is being stupid). We then got to meet our group. We had spotted a few people during the videos that we were hoping we werent in a group with so when we saw ours we were very happy. There was us two, an english girl called Lucy, two German girls called Jana and Laura, then five Brazilian boys, Marco, Lucas, Phillipe, Gregory and Edwardo. That night we decided to get together for a few drinks to get to know each other a little before we started our 3 day, 2 night trip to Fraser =)
This is where we also saw Tyler, he wanted a special meantion on the blog, so here you go =)
On the return from Fraser we were all shattered, what a trip! We had returned the 4WD back to the garage along with all the equipment we left with (plus a few extras that team 3 got charged for, oops) and were told everything was good and we could leave. Team 3 had to pay $7 each for the two cups they 'lost' and team 2 had to pay for breaking a suspension spring (or something similar) so we were well happy. After showers and a nap, our team set off to the park to finish the goon that was left at the garage. Without going into detail as our parents and family will be reading this, the drinking games that accompanied the goon drinking were very entertaining. The pictures have been edited for this reason.
We all went to the beach for a bit and whilst some people thought bed would be a good idea before getting our 7.40am bus, Sam sat and watched the sunrise. Deciding that there wasnt much point going to bed for an hour, her and Lucas sat up chatting until it was time to pack and get the bus. However, this turned out a bad idea when the bus was delayed for 2 hours so the idea of sleeping on the bus was interrupted. So as we all waited for the bus to arrive, the majority of us lay on the pavement asleep looking like hobos.
