The sun was shining as we rose today. Yep it was going to be beautiful again. After cooking some eggs we all sat out on the deck getting some rays & taking in the view as I dangled my feet in the pool. The water was beautiful so I changed and went for my first swim in a long time. With amazing views, a warm sun shining down & submerged in cool water, I was feeling pretty good about my life. But we had to go explore so a quick shower & then we piled into the car & headed down to the lighthouse at Faros on the westernmost tip on the south of the island. From here we had beautiful views, although that's the case anywhere on this island, & took plenty of snaps. From there we headed to Ancient Akrotiri which was a civilization buried & preserved by a volcanic eruption in about 1450 BC. It has been partially excavated & gives a good insight into how communities were built by the ancient Greeks. After this it was back in the car with a stop off for lunch, before heading to Oia, which is on the westernmost tip on the north of the island. Oia is the most popular destination on Santorini owing to it being your typical Greek Island town. Whitewashed houses with blue domed roofs & coloured doors on the side of cliffs. Dogs & cats lazing away everywhere. In fact if you have ever seen a picture of the Greek Islands then there is a 98.67% chance it was taken at Oia. We joined the throng of tourists taking pictures everywhere as we explored the streets. After a gazillion photos we stopped on a rooftop to have cake & watch a cruise liner leave the caldera. We then took a bazillion more photos before making our way back to the car & down to the port nearby. Here we took some more photos as we wandered along the shore. The sun was starting to descend as it hit 7pm so we headed back towards our home. On our way we stopped at the new port for a look at where we would be departing from in a few days time. Then it was back up the side of the cliff to a winery looking out over the ocean & the volcano. Here we spent a magical hour drinking wine, although I only a had coke which turned out to be quite a nice drop, & watched one of the most spectacular sunsets we have ever seen in our lives. The colours of the sky seemed to change every few minutes & it has now ingrained in our memories forever. We took a quadrillion photos, which don't do it justice, & watched until it had disappeared. It was the perfect end. The perfect end to the day, & the perfect end to this blog.
