It was bye bye to Prague & the awesome Czech Republic. It was a lovely drive through the countryside until we arrived in Germany & our lunch stop in Dresden. Here Tim took us for a walk around the old centre. The city was totally flattened by the allies during the war, which remains a source of controversy today. The old quarter has been painstakingly rebuilt to try & capture the beauty that it used to possess. They have done a pretty amazing job resulting in a lovely city with an amazing feel. Jac, Kez, Deano & I had a coffee in the main square before wandering up along the promenade. It was then along to a nice little fast food station for traditional currywurst & pommes frittes. Belly's full so we were off again to our stop of Berlin for the next 2 nights. We arrived early afternoon & checked in to our hostel. It was an amazing place, the best hostel we have ever been to. An old communist era school building, ridiculously big with long corridors & rooms everywhere. We went for a wander along the East Side gallery, a section of the Berlin wall that has been covered in art. We walked the length and then sat on the grass by the river & just enjoyed the sun. Then we had a little rest back at the hostel before heading down for a forgetful dinner at our restaurant. Following this we stayed in the bar drinking with a quarter of the tour group. This quickly degenerated into card drinking games & shots. Then as the bar closed Jac, Janet, Tim, Phil, Jack & I moved on to a local nightclub where the line was too long to get in. So we tried to get in to a gay bar where we were denied entry because only one of us was gay (no not me). After this discrimination we headed to a local karaoke bar. Here we sang the night away having a shed load of fun & only emerged when we were kicked out at 3.30am. A walking tour of Berlin tomorrow morning is going to be hard so it may be a no breakfast day. But I am thankful I am not in our tour leaders shoes. He is going to hurt big time.
