On our way to Hervey Bay we called into Bundaberg. Saw the funniest road sign. Really wish Id taken a photo. It read Bundaberg (straight ahead) Winfield ( to the left)! We toured the rum distillery which was quite interesting. We saw lots of molasses, I loved the smell the girls thought it was weird, Mikayla thought it looked like chocolate but most definitely didn't taste of it! Tasted more like golden syrup. The sugar can is driven into the mill where it's obviously turned into sugar, then the with the left over molasses they make rum with yeast which is made on sight, and water. The left over sludge is sent back to the farmers to fertilise the sugar and the process starts all over again! Kevs best part was the taste testing at the final stop...The bar!. Then straight to beautiful Hervey bay home of the whales, lots of statues all over town representing these magnificent mammals. The fantastic weather here has made it a delight soaking in all the sights. We just had to stop by "EAT with Dan&Steph " on the esplanade (for all you MKR fans out there!) Lots of gorg little restraunts and wine bars surrounding. The esplanade is full of beautiful tall trees that meet the sheltered bay, we enjoyed a sunset stroll while watching the local kids surf life saving and all the happy dogs chasing balls ( can't wait to take Angel for a walk). Also on the esplanade is a fantastic water park called WetSide, it's brilliant the girls loved running through the water jets and slides. Qld waterfronts with the free waterparks are really impressive, extremely family friendly. Pretty excited to have had our first Alde experience! Although we weren't overly impressed after our shop. Preparing for a few days get away to Fraiser Island now.
