Well I have arrived at my first destination in one piece after a very long flight. Its was 24c when we arrived which was a lot hotter than I had imagined it would be and after 24hrs on a plane we didn't exactly need any help to stink! Still recovering from the journey really but am gradually adapting to the 12 hour time difference. We all had a look around when we first arrived to just get a feel for the place but then had to crash out and catch up on some much needed sleep. On the Saturday morning we were actually in a position to do a bit of sight seeing and made are way to Sky Tower which is 250m high. It gave a great view of Auckland but gave me the goolies a bit as a lot of the floor was see through. It was semi tempting to do the base jump right from the top of the tower but having watched a few people do it decided we would be better of saving our first adrenalin activity for another time. After this we made our way down to the harbour area which was really nice but felt more like somewhere in Europe rather than across the other side of the world. We went to a few bars on the waterfront and sampled the bear of New Zealand, Steinlager. We then treated ourselves and had an italian looking out over the harbour which was really nice and fairly reasonably priced. After beer and food I then felt like I could have fallen asleep standing up so we made our way back to the youth hostel for some much needed sleep. So far today (Sunday) we have been on a boat that took us on a tour of the whole harbour. We also had lunch on board which was some local fish with a salad that we somehow got for less than half price after looking uninteretsed at paying the original price, but we weren't complaining. I will try and get some photos put up sometime next week so look out for them. See you later
