Buonconvento / Murlo / Siena. 4th September 2011
Breakfast at 7.30am commences the day before three remaining walkers, Catrina, Peter and I commence our walk. 16 kilometers to Murlo.
An overcast day made this walk easier, with the odd spots of rain not enough to wet, but enough to keep us cool. Our walk took us through the small hamlet of Buonconvento which was a great way to start the day. An easier hike than the prior two days, thank goodness. The country is littered with abandoned old stone farm houses which would have been beautiful in there time. We visit a church Santa Innocence (1250), and meet a local, Signor Pellegrini Bernuto who opens the church for us and gives us a history run down.
Our walk continues thru Entruscan Ruin woods before reaching Murlo another walled city but on a small scale. Here we meet us with a Cannon camera club who kindly offers us drinks.
We visit the local museum which is filled local history and artifacts. Having explored Murlo our shuttle bus was ready to transfer us to Siena.
Bepe our driver gave us a history lesson on the journey to our hotel and once settled into our room Peter and I took a walk to the Piazza where we had a gelati.
In the evening we were reunited with our group and joined them for dinner. Following dinner we all took a passagiata into the main square before retiring for the night.
This was the end of our Tuscan walk. But the adventure has not ended.
