So much has been happening here in Florence... Internet not the greatest...
First night in we did a night tour which was short and sweet. Saw the copy of David which was impressive, the beautiful Duomo which was really out of this world, and one of the main centers with high end shops such as Chanel. Then went to a leather demo which gave us tips on how to access for quality leather. And yes it is a rumor- leather does burn people !
Then got a awesome 4 course dinner at the Sizzle house, just wow: beef stew, Mediterranean chicken, bruschetta, potatoes- there was so much food !! It was like home cooking, the beef was melt in your mouth. Right beside the restaurant was a karaoke bar, let's just say it was a fun and interesting night. It was pretty wicked when they brought out a 3.5 L tower of beer with a sparkler on top !!
Day 2 we spent climbing the 480 or so steps of the Duomo tower. This church is truly stunning: white and green marble, and all the small little details, it's breathtaking. We also got to see the fresco paintings on the Duomo ceiling right up close, I could almost touch it ! Brennin wasn't a fan of the height factor.
The view from the top was ... Just wow. No words can really explain it. The rest of the afternoon we spent roaming the street vendors and admiring way too expensive Chanel.
Day 3 we spent in Chianti wine region ! It was SOO much fun. First winery was very cute and small, I wasn't a fan of the wines though- the first white one tasted like vinegar... They did have a small selection of foods which included: breads with 3 types of olive oil (garlic was awesome), 2 types of sheep cheese that they served with jams (peach was delicious!), than 2 types of meats. Next we went to this very very small medieval town (only 50 people live there..) that will be 800 years old next year!!! Had some great gelato there (mango and raspberry). Then finished off at the true Chianti winery that makes Chianti Classico which is one of the best wines (remember to look for the black roaster- that means it follows all the rules for a true Chianti wine). Saw the breathtaking vineyard, olives on their trees, and all the winery. Another reason why their wine is one of the best reds- they age it in oak barrels, that is key !
Yesterday we did a cooking class ! It was truly an amazing experience, I am so glad I booked it- probably this and the wine tour were my favorite things I did in Florence. Went to the market first to test some cheeses with various jams, bread with oils, such good samples!!! I grabbed the honey truffle jam because it was out of this world! Then made pasta from scratch ! And it was the best pasta I have ever tasted- I will make it for everyone when I get home ! Had some Chianti wine and enjoyed the great company and the huge meal we prepared from scratch. I would recommend everyone to do this class it was so amazing !
