Day 17

Kalbarri - Shark Bay

"Sittin in the morning sun, I"ll be sittin till the evening comes.....

Another beautiful day dawned and well we left paradise for umm... Paradise . I guess the catch phrase is same same but different!

We left Kalbarri just after 8am and cruised through the National Park edge until we rejoined the highway. The trip up to Shark Bay was an uneventful 350 odd k trip.

We fueled just outside of the turnoff at the Overlander Roadhouse before turning and entering the Shark Bay World Heritage listed area.

We called to get a permit to camp at the Roadhouse as we had no mobile coverage till that point and decided to free camp at Whalebone Bay. It's such a beautiful spot too! We parked the van right at the waters edge, unhooked and then drove into Denham. We would be back to enjoy the wonders of our bay later.

We stopped at the Info centre to pick up a pass to Monkey Mia for tomorrow morning and ask a few q's in general about the area . The annual fishing comp is on at the moment - its the biggest thing on their calendar too! The highlight is tomorrow night's comedian who is the Old Fella from Australia's Got Talent (should put things into perspective!) We drove around the town for a bit and saw the church made entirely out of shells from Shell Bay.

We then hightailed back to enjoy our digs for the night stopping at Eagle Buff lookout.

Our view is nothing short of spectacular - its such a shame that we are limited to an overnight stay only - I could spend a week here easily! We all spent the afternoon swimming and snorkeling in the bay and enjoying a few drinks in the refreshing crystal clear water. It got to 33 today and was nice to cool down.

Watched yet another beautiful sunset from our front door tonight followed by the best colours we've seen in this trip. Dinner was outside by the waters edge and was followed by stargazing at the millions of stars we can see in the sky without the city lights interrupting.

Early start tomorrow morning to get to Monkey Mia by 7.30 for Dolphins.

We are staying at Monkey Mia resort tomorrow night - talk about expensive!!! Only way though to be there for the early Dolphin feeding.

It's tough to be in paradise !!
