Day 12
Jurien Bay - Green Head - Leeman Bay - Port Denison - Dongara - Greenough - Lake Ellendale
"So goodbye for a while I'm off to explore every boundary and every door..... yeah I'm going North....."
Left Jurien just after 8am and hit the Indian Ocean Drive - the coastal road heading North parallel to the coast. We ducked into little beach hamlets along the way - Green Head, Leeman Bay, Port Denison. As we got further North, the weather improved that little bit more and the showers stopped all together in the end!
From Port Denison, we cruised along long stretches of beaches with old fishing shacks - the land alone would be worth an absolute fortune and they have lots of unpowered and dilapidated corrugated shacks that have been there for decades untouched. This is lobster country after all and this stretch feeds the Geralton Lobster industry - something for tomorrow !!
We then headed inland to Greenough and stopped to check out the historic township that is part of the National Trust. Lots of stone buildings dating back to the late 1800's that have had a multitude of uses and many that are still in use today .
From Greenough, it was onto Lake Ellendale and our camp for the night . We passed the Alinta Windfarm along the way - 54 turbines that could power the whole of Geralton.
Lake Ellendale is a beautiful spot. We pulled up the van right beside the lake itself - dosent get any better than that! Shame it was too windy for a swim ( yes even for Cayla) - the water is crystal clear and would be great for a canoe or kayak expedition.
Onward up North to Geralton tomorrow.
PS - if you haven't worked it out by now, everyday starts with a song lyric. It's either a song we've listened to that day or a song that's appropriate for what we've done that day. Have you guessed them all so far??
Tell you what - if you can guess all 81 ( or closest too) then there will be a special holiday prize for you!!! And yes it's going to be just as hard for me to come up with them as for you to guess them - no google searches either - that's cheating ( plus I'm going to know your musical tastes anyway !)
