Day 6
Balladonia - Norseman - Kalgoorlie (Lake Douglas)
"Cause dirt road are slower, dust gets stuck to your skin. That rusty red earth reminds me of where I've been...."
Woke up to the sunrise this morning which we watched in bed from our master bedroom window!
Hit the road about 7.45 and continued the 90 mile straight. Stopped a little down the track to take a photo of us all on the road looking back as far as you could see. Freaked the kids out a bit but they played up to it in the end. Cayden even pretending he was road kill!!
We drove on to Balladonia and stopped at the roadhouse - $2.04 per litre for fuel - lucky I didnt need to fill up!! We had a look at the museum and saw bits of Skylab that fell out of the sky in 1979 that is their claim to fame.
Stopped at Norseman and drove to the lookout over the town and a gold mine operation. Also did a walk around the lookout to get a better perspective of the town and it's surrounds.
From there it was onto Coolgardie - a really pretty town in terms of older style buildings. Old style pubs with upstairs verandahs and you can drive the town in a minute too.
Our campsite tonight is 12k's from Kalgoorlie at Lake Douglas. We got in about 3.30 today - our shortest drive so far. Only 2 of us here too which is great. The mining operations continue in the distance and we had another nice campfire tonight complete with the ukulele trio practicing by the fire.
Saw 4 wedge tail eagles today and 2 x Go Robbo signs - don't know who Robbo is - but I hope he's a winner!
