Day 11

Jurien Bay - Cervantes - Pinnacles - Thirsty Point - Hansen Bay - Lake Thetis - Jurien Bay

"Days of aching sunshine, days of sweetest rain. Days we know will never come again...."

Woke up to pouring rain this morning - the day didn't look like it was going to be a good one at all. After breakkie we ventured outside and it looked like we might get a break in the weather. That turned out to be the case thankfully as it never looked back from there.

We drove the 20k's from Jurien to Cervantes and the Pinnacles which are really remarkable. Really glad I went. We drove the 4k loop to start with - literally between the pillars of limestone as we went and then walked the 1k loop and decided to drive the loop again. The weather went from cloudy overcast skies to blue patches in the time we were there and the colours changed as well. You can really make out the turquoise water colour off in the distance at the beach as well. The Kids played hide and seek amongst the limestone statues which gave them a lot of fun! We chased a couple of Emu's as well that were hanging about the sand dunes.

From there we drove onto Thirsty Bay where the whole of the point and road is literally being washed away by nature and its tides. The lookout gave a better perspective of the whole bay which has that lovely 2 toned water from deep blue to turquoise. Shame it was so windy which meant a quick visit only.

We had lunch on the other side of Cervantes in a park next to the caravan park and cafe.

After lunch we drove to Hansen Bay and Lake Thetis. The lake contains Stromatolites and Strombalites - one of the earths oldest living life forms and it's one of only 4 locations on earth that they can be found in. Had a nice 1.5k walk around the lake too.

The late afternoon was spent back at Jurien and back in the water of the Bay in the sunshine. The turquoise water is still quite warm and I expect lots more beach time as we head further North.

Tomorrow we head North on our West Coast leg. Heading towards Geralton but we've found a great bush camp at Greenough which we simply must check out! Has a place called Ellendale Pool which is a natural pool surrounded by huge cliffs which we can camp at .
