Day 26
Exmouth - Tom Price
" well you're rockin fine! Why don't you give me a sign? Just gotta give me a sign and we'll do the Eagle Rock..."
What a contrast! We swapped the clear turquoise waters today for mountain ranges and rich rusty red earth as we headed inland from the coast from Exmouth towards Tom Price.
We did some big k's today - just over 600 all up! Saw lots of different landscapes as well from absolute desert - nothing but red sand to lush green and red earth mixed together and everything inbetween!
Lots and lots of birds of prey too - wedge tail eagles, kites and ospreys - much to Cayden's happiness.
We bush camped tonight 35 k's from Tom Price next to the Bellamy River and just under Half Mile Creek Bridge. There are 2 other couples in with us here and we had a great campfire after dinner with lots of yarns of our combined travels to date.
All of a sudden we were disturbed by a huge train! We didn't even know we were close to railway lines! Talk about long- we counted 4 engines in front, 334 trays and another 2 engines in the back!! Must have been 3 kilometres long !! It's the special track only used by Rio Tinto to transport their iron ore direct to Derby.
Went to bed well after midnight after a great night by the fire with marshmallows .
Tomorrow we head into town and a tour of the Rio Tinto open cut mine.
