Day 18
Whalebone Bay - Monkey Mia
"When they get in the notion,
They jump out of the ocean,
With tail fluke locomotion,
The Dolphin Family"
6am wake up this morning. Such a nice night listening to the lapping of the waves against the shoreline right outside our bedroom window!
It was still pitch black and so we decided to have Breakkie to reduce the instances of Skippy likely to hop in front of the Disco. We left at 6.45am just as the sun was rising for another day of service.
We got to Monkey Mia just in time to join the masses on the deck eagerly awaiting the dolphin arrivals. Didn't have to wait long! We counted 12 dolphins in total over 2 feedings we were at. All 3 kids were picked to feed the dolphins - they were very happy! The kids were happy too!
We left the feeding beach to check into the resort . It was quite hot by that stage and so with the van unhooked, we hit the bay for a swim.
The watersports guy has a good job - he drove his tinny onto the beach in front of us and proceeded to clean the 8 or so squid that he'd just caught off the shore. Enlisting the help of 3 apprentices, there was squid ink everywhere, guts and eyeballs that the kids removed. They had a great time then feeding the squid leftovers to the pelicans and seagulls! Cayden still has squid eyeballs hidden somewhere!!
After lunch back at our van, we drove to Francois Peron National Park and the old homestead. There is an artesian well that pumps out 40 degree water - far too hot for a dunk - but we put our feet in.
It was back to the resort for another swim then to wind away the rest of the afternoon, we are treating Corinne to a Mothers Day dinner at the Monkey Bar tonight.
Tomorrow after the dolphin feeds, we are going an a cruise of the bay in a catermaran before hopefully free camping back at either Whalebone or on of the other sites - you need a permit so its first in.
Just watched the sun finish its service for the day - another great day in the sun.
