Day 23
Coral Bay - Exmouth - Yardie Homestead - Cape Range National Park - Yardie
"did you jump? did you dive? did you plough the depths and come up alive ...."
From Coral Bay we headed further up the peninsula to Exmouth. It's a way off the track but it's a necessary stop for food and fuel before heading onto other things. In our case it's the Cape Range National Park and all that it has to offer.
The campsites at the National Park are extremely limited, very popular and unfortunately fully booked when we wanted to stay. They have queues at 7am of people wanting a campsite. We are staying at the Yardie Homestead just 4 kms from the Park as a result. At least we have power and showers - not that they are a real bonus , the water is salty and not drinkable and the power is off a generator.
We set up the van and headed into the Park after lunch. Drove to Turquoise Bay which is exactly as its named. Beautiful clear warm waters . We drift snorkelled off the beach for about 500m, got out and did it all again a few times. Coral and fish life are more abundant than Coral Bay that's for sure.
We saw our first shark today! It was a black tipped reef shark and was about 1.5 m long and swam between Corinne, Cobes and Cayden and Cayla and Me about 50 metres behind them. Cayla was initially freaked but soon calmed down as she understood that they had no interest in us.
Cayden saw another later on as well !
We swam in the strong current for a couple of hours and then walked around the point to the bay itself which is a lot calmer and tranquil.
We dragged ourselves out of the water just after 5pm and drove the 20kms back to the Homestead busily dodging the 25 kangaroos that Cayla counted lining the road.
Busy day tomorrow!

Scally This pic nearly bought a tear to my eye - its making me miss you even more. Still sounds awesome and I'm still extremely jealous. Wish you had done this trip before I had kids so I could have invited myself along!!!
