Day 21
Point Quobba - Coral Bay
"let's go to the beach beach , let's go get a wave...."
The windy conditions continued overnight and we awoke to another beautiful sunny day.
After Breakkie we hit the water again - the water is just so warm and the underwater world that opens up just steps off the beach is so inviting ! Took some video today underwater and some more pics in the different light. didn't matter that it was a bit choppy with the wind- once in that was forgotten.
We had booked Coral Bay yesterday so we reluctantly packed up and continued our journey Northward to better things.
The drive was only 250ks and with the exception of crossing the Tropic of Capricorn and stopping for a roadside photo was uneventful.
Coral Bay is a true tourist spot. It has 2 caravan parks right next to each other and a resort right next to them both. They each have shops across the road from them and then there is the Bay which is calm and has that still inviting white sand and warm water.
I had to tightly reverse the van into a spot for the first time in 7000ks which was a good test. I'd reversed it before but nothing like trying to back it onto a spot. Passed with flying colours too I might add - even the second time after Corinne put me on the wrong side of the concrete slab the first time. Ahh practise!
Once we had setup we hit the bay for a snorkel. Disappointing! Our first impressions were one of "should we have stayed at Quobba??" There are much bigger fish here in the bay but the coral is ordinary and a long way off shore which puts a limitation on kids swimming endurance.
We still enjoyed the swim though and what we saw, and, as it turn out, there is better snorkeling grounds around the point which we will now check out in the morning. Hopefully better than the first effort. We still saw sting rays, big snapper and trevally and even a catfish!
They feed the snapper everyday at 3.30 - we saw crowds of people yesterday and wondered what was going on and it wasn't till afterwards it clicked - we will go tomorrow.
Watched yet another beautiful sunset sitting on the white sands, beers in hand with another family we met on the cruise at Monkey Mia. They have 2 girls that get on very well with our 2 and all the 5 kids played in the water the whole time till the sun called stumps for the day.
Another BBQ flat lamb pack tonight - nice way to finish the day.
More adventures tomorrow - including looking into Whaleshark swimming!
