Day 32
80 Mile Beach
"she dreamed of para, para, paradise every time she closed her eyes ...."
We woke up ready to head into Broome today - but that didn't happen. This place is simply too good. After breakfast we went for a walk to have a look at the beach, seeing as we got in just on dark last night. Well at 9am as I was suggesting that we keep moving to pack up - everyone was begging to stay longer - so we did - an extra day in fact.
We had a great day as a result too!
We let the tyres down on the Disco and drove on the beach - first time in ages I've driven on the beach too and the Disco just took it in its stride! We spent the whole morning collecting shells on the white beach. The beach has probably the most shells I have ever seen on a single beach and the variety and size of shells is just amazing !
We only took a few shells too - ok so 3 shopping bags later I think we have enough! Don't worry though - there is still 80 gazillion shells here waiting for when you visit !
Cobey is a billionaire! She has decided that a type of shell she calls 'shell dollars' are actual currency. On our return to Sydney she will just need to get an appointment with Glenn Stevens to verify the acceptance of a new currency and she will be set!
The kids have got so many shells - everything from small periwinkle types to huge trumpet shells ( I'm talking head size!) and everything in between - getting them home will be fun too! Lucky the van is a bit of a tardis!!
We watched the sun set over the beach tonight with a few beers and then caught up with our travelling friends Brendan and Janelle we first met at Tom Price.
Tomorrow we will be heading for Broome! It will be hard to leave though - this place is a bit of paradise! Way out in the middle of no where, but just so beautiful. They even had markets today!!
In November each year the beach is invaded by thousands of turtles marching up the beach ready to lay their eggs. It's a turtle sanctuary as a result. Pity we can stay longer! Seems like most of the people here have been here for a long time - and why not too - if you love fishing and the beach it's hard not to want to stay!
