We got picked up this morning bang on time at 10am for our ride to the pier for our boat for Langkawi, Malaysia!
We don't know Lanta too well but we do know that the pier is left from our hotel not right, which was the direction the driver decided to go, fortunatley he was just making a quick stop at the travel agents before he turned round to go the right direction - wahey we're on or way! About half way to the pier, the driver again turned round and set off away from the pier, ths was now getting a little bit worrying as the Ferry was due to leave at 10.30 and it was 20 past. Again he pulled up to the travel agent where we were greeted by the very friendly Thai lady who had just 5 minuts ago wished us a safe trip. She came out and got straight to the point.
"We have ploblem, very big ploblem!" Wonderful. She explained to us in the smily happy way only a Thai person could that the ferry she had booked us on wasn't actually running anymore it had stopped for low season a couple of weeks ago. We were now also too late to set off for the slow route to the mainland etc. So we were a little stuck. Surprisingly we weren't tht bothered, by now we have learned that, what Thai travel agents say will happen and what actually happens are 2 very different things! We couldn't really complain anyway as the lady travel agent was exceptionally nice about everything, even going as far as finishing every answer with the word 'please':
"Is it impossible for us to get to Langkawi to day?"
"Yes please"
"We need out money back off you..."
"Yes please"
"Could we get a cup of coffee?)
"Yes Please"
You probably had to be there...
She kindly helped us out by getting us to Trang on the mainland which was probably about halfway to Langkawi. We would then spend the night there, before getting the bus and boat to Langkawi tomorrow. So we set off with a driver that realy shouldn't have a license, as when there is monsoon rain coming down and you can only see about 5 metres in front of you, you shouldn't be doing about 60mph and overtaking everycar in sight!
We eventually made it to the city of Trang though and found a nice hotel to spend the night, we made sure it had a TV as there wasn't too much to see in Trang. Unfortunatley the TV only had Nickelodeon and Zone Reality.
After a look round the pretty boring city of Trang we had what would be our last Thai meal (hopefully) and went back to the room with some beers to watch TV and without realising it scared ourselves stupid by watching a shed load of crime documentaries about criminals and murderers
