The Further Adventures of Claire
I am currently in Kaunas, Lithuania staying with Lina's parents. We are not so far away from Russia. Right now we are even having the same weather as they are. When I arrived here late monday night it was almost -20C, far colder than Oslo, which surprised me. Luckily Lina met me at the airport, with warm things to wear and a car to her house. I spent all day tuesday catching up with Lina, and then wednesday Aura (the resident contemporary dance company) already had me teaching classes. It is good to feel useful and this allows me to see a new dance community just begining to bud.
When I was in London and Oslo I felt as if I could be in parts of NYC, but here it is quite different. Not just the language (and the fact that most people can't speak english), but even the buildings and the way the streets are laid out.
But just as I was really feeling far away from home, Lina and I ran into an American professor who is teaching here at the university. It turns out that he used to live in Roanoke, Va right near to Hollins College (where Lina is going to school). He got his degree from Wake Forrest university, and his wife is from NYC.
What a coincidence.
I got his number and promised meet with him and his wife next week. It just proves how very small the world really is. :)
