We're back in Perth now for the final time before we leave WA for good in January. For our first 4 nights we were staying in a hostel in the city, so we made use of the free bus service to do some last minute shopping for Christmas, got ourselves some good bargains (even though we only have each other to buy presents for!). We also made use of our free time to finally visit Caversham Wildlife Park, which is a wildlife park in the north of Perth that only houses Australian animals. We saw loads of birds and animals, some that we had already seen in the wild during our road trip and others that we hadn't had a chance to see. We also got a chance to hand feed kangaroos and wallabies; get up close with wombats, snakes, possums and a bettony (which I got to stroke); and the highlight was getting to stroke a koala! It was the first time we had seen any (they don't live in the wild in WA) and they were super cute! Hopefully we will see some wild ones when we go over to the Eastern states. After our 4 nights in the hostel we have now started house/dog sitting for a couple in Bayswater, in the east of the city. We're staying here for 3 weeks, so we get to spend Christmas Day and the New Year in an actual house! We've bought our food, we're going to cook a proper Christmas lunch (although there won't be as much food as my Dad always cooks), so we hopefully won't be feeling too homesick on the day, and we have the 2 dogs to keep us company so we should have quite a nice day, although it's forecast to be 32 degrees which is going to be very strange for Christmas! We're also making use of their free wifi to book the rest of our trip, so hopefully we'll have some announcements to make on that front soon.
