We set off from our campsite in Albany and drove about 5 hours East to a small town called Esperance - even after driving all this way we were still about 2 days drive from the border with South Australia - WA is beyond huge! I was feeling really ill, so I slept for basically the entire day and didn't eat anything - I missed the entire journey. Once we got to Esperance we found a campsite and I went straight back to sleep in the tent. The next day luckily I was feeling much better so we decided to explore the town. Unfortunately the night before we had been practically eaten alive by mosquitoes - 20+ bites for both of us - so first stop was a pharmacy to find something to stop the itching! After that we wandered around the town centre looking at some of their historic buildings, then had a walk along the seafront to see a sculpture of a whale's tail and to see the islands that surround the coast in this part of WA. We also had a walk along the beach by our campsite, a very nice and relaxing day to help me get over feeling so ill the day before. The next day we had breakfast at a cafe in town - the food wasn't brilliant (we haven't really had any exceptional meals out in Australia yet), but they had free wifi so we made use of that. Then we headed into Cape Le Grand National Park to visit some of the beaches which have been voted as having the whitest sand in Australia - and they weren't wrong! We went to Lucky Bay, unfortunately we didn't see any kangaroos on the beach, but we did walk along the beach and paddled in the sea, which wasn't actually that cold to say the water comes straight from Antarctica! After that we headed round to Thistle Cove, Hellfire Bay and Le Grand Bay, which were all equally stunning with gleaming white sand and crystal clear blue waters. It was a really lovely town except for the mosquitoes!
