My Family Travels
My boyfriend and I were driving back up to his house after our wonderful vacation in Colorado. We had just attended a few weddings in Milwaukee and were ready to get back to real life for a few days together. I would be leaving for my mission trip to Grenada in a week so I was excited to spend a few days up at his church.
We were driving through Green Bay. I don't remember any of that day, so all of this is what people have told me. The police were chasing after a stolen car. One of the squad cars lost control and ran into my car, 4 lanes away. I was driving the car and I was t-boned by the police car. My boyfriend, Paul, was ok. I, on the other hand, had many injuries. My left pelvis was pretty much crushed, several vertebrae were cracked, and I had severe internal bleeding. There were a few days where they didn't know if I would survive.
After a month in the hospital and three months in a rehab center, I am now out of the woods. I still have a lot of recovery to go. My hip is filled with metal screws and bolts. Walking is going well, but I cannot be as active as I used to be.
Through this whole situation I have learned a few things.
- My faith in Jesus is what pulled me through this. I have a great family and boyfriend (now fiance), but my Savior is who was watching out for me that day. His Hands are what carried me through the hard days. I'm sure I would be much more angry and upset if it wasn't for the unfailing love of my Lord.
- I have a wonderful man in my life. Paul has been by my side this entire time. We had only been dating for 6 months when this happened. He has been such a comfort to me. While I was in the rehab center, he asked me to be his wife. I had no doubt in saying yes. I look forward to spending my life with him.
- Travel is still a love of my life. I wasn't able to do what I wanted this summer. But I have many more years to go lots of places. Paul also loves to travel, which is one thing I love about him. Travel will not be the same for me after this. Going through airport security will be a nightmare.
