My Family Travels
Today was more of a down low day for me. I woke up and the altitude we were in did not agree with my system. But when I took some Dramamine after breakfast, I felt better by late afternoon. Here are some highlights of the day!
Driving into Canada - Actually we did this yesterday, but I had to tell you about all the animals we saw on the road. We saw a few signs warning about cattle in the roads. Now usually when I see signs warning about animals, I don't really expect to see any. I was wrong about this. There were 3 times when we had to stop and honk at several cattle in the road. Thankfully there was not a ton of traffic on the road so we could pass the cows without problems. But yeah, it was pretty crazy to see cows in the middle of the road. And then we almost ran into a fox. We were ready to get to the hotel after seeing all the "wildlife?".
Breakfast - I do wish I felt better this morning. We had breakfast at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The view out the window during breakfast was fantastic! I had wanted to do the afternoon tea here, but then I found out that it was $30 a person, so I decided it was too expensive.
Prince of Wales Hotel - When I was feeling a bit better (after the Dramamine and sleeping most of the morning and afternoon, that stuff just knocked me out!) Paul and I decided to go to visit the Prince of Wales Hotel since I wasn't able to see it in the morning. This hotel is beautiful! After wandering around the gift shop, we headed outside to get a view of the lake and mountains. While we were taking pictures, a nice couple from England offered to take a picture of the 2 of us! They were so nice. That is one of the fun things about going to National Parks. Everyone is so friendly!
Waterton - The town that we are staying in, while going to the park, is right in the park! So there have been several times while walking the streets that we have seen mule deer. They have been so close that Paul says he could punch one right in the nose. It is a little scary to be walking so close to wildlife. But they are usually very calm and focused on eating when we pass.
Boat ride - The main reason we are up here in Canada is because Paul's dad used to fight forest fires in Idaho 50+ years ago. He remembers coming up to this exact location to tour around in his spare time. He was so excited about going on this boat ride and he told many people in Waterton and on the boat about his visit here 53 years ago. Our tour guide on the boat was great! He was very personable and gave us great information. The lake we were boating on is in both Waterton Lakes NP and Glacier NP. That means that partway through the tour we crossed the border without going through customs. In the picture where it says I am crossing the border, look for a faint line in the trees. They clear a path through the forest to show the border. The only wildlife we saw while on the boat was a bald eagle in a tree. This boat ride was so worth it. The calm boat trip with the great scenery was a great end to the day. We had chosen to do the 7:00pm ride to try and get some great pictures at sunset. Thankfully it only rained on the way out and not on the way back. Our ponchos have definitely come in handy during this trip! I will never forget the beautiful views I have seen today!
