My Family Travels
This trip was to visit my friend Rachel who lives in Michigan. She works at a Early Childhood Learning Center, so she doesn't get summer break like the rest of us. Thus we visit her.
Claire, Erin, and I drove over to Michigan in trusty Betsy. I will be very sad when Betsy will no longer be able to drive us everywhere!
Erin and I are allergic to cats, so instead of staying at Rachel's cat-filled apartment, we decided to go camping. I don't know what we were thinking.....I do like camping, but there were so many mosquitoes! We were dying just setting up! By the end of this trip I was filled with not only bites, but welts from the bugs. So awful. We did a little bit by the campfire, but then called it a night early.
Erin had started to do 5ks, so we found one in MI. We traveled to Petersburg, MI for the Rose Run. This was the cutest small town race. It was to benefit breast cancer research. Erin ran it while the rest of us walked it. Throughout the race we saw many people who knew each other. There was also a traveling dog that everyone seemed to know. He walked along the road as we all walked. This race started my new love of racing.
Then came the hot air balloon festival. I didn't know what I was going to think about this. We were not able to ride in one, so what were we going to do for a few hours? During the day we wandered around the fair grounds. We were able to take in an air show. Rachel really enjoyed watching the planes. I think it's a family memory for her. We stayed until sunset. Thankfully the wind calmed down so that we could see the night lighting of the balloons. This was really cool. I would love to see this again. All the balloon filled up, but not enough to rise in the air. It was really fun just to see them fill up. Then with the fire they lit up. Sometimes it was all at once, sometimes they did it so they sparkled. So very neat. The next morning we went to the "sunrise" launch. Really it was at 8:00, so it definitely wasn't sunrise. There was also a pancake breakfast. What a great morning! Pancakes and balloons. Really really fun. We watched them until we couldn't see them anymore. Someday I will ride on a hot air balloon!
We hung out a little bit longer, but then it was time to go. It was such a nice short trip to visit a friend!
