We have just got back to Townsville after 3 days on Magnetic Island. We stayed in a hostel that was part of a wildlife park so there were loads of animals including possums, crimson rosellas (in the picture), etc wandering around the campsite. They were all really friendly and the birds just came and landed on our heads and hands, I got crapped on my head.
We did a long walk yesterday but it was really good. We walked from Horseshoe Bay where we were staying over the headland to Radical Bay where we found some coconuts on the beach. After about an hour we finally managed to get into them. Then we walked to Florence Bay for a bit on sunbathing, we were going to go snorkelling but we weren't sure if there were jellyfish so we didn't risk it. We managed to get a lift from a couple up the steep road from Florence Bay to the start of the Forts Walk. We walked up the Forts Walk which was an old military base in WW2 where there are still gun placements and all the old buildings. Finally we walked back to the beach and had fish and chips whilst watching the sunset. We were knackered so didn't do much at night, it was a really quiet hostel anyway and the bar closed at about 9:30.
We saw a bit more of the south of the island today before getting the ferry back to Townsville. We had to get a new key for the car because the old one had something wrong with the electronics in it and the engine wasn't starting very well. It seems ok now though.
Off to see Australia's highest waterfall tomorrow on the way up to Mission Beach where we may go white water rafting.
