We have had a few days of luxury staying in cabins and a guest house. The last couple of nights we had a room in a sort of motel for the same price as the backpackers. We had ensuite, TV, our own balcony with a massive BBQ, etc. Back to the dorms now though but only for a couple of nights because we are going on a 4WD self drive trip to Fraser Island on Sat.
We have been to Mooloolaba, Noosa and Rainbow Beach over the last few days. We rented a small boat at Noosa and took some fishing gear with us. We had a bad start because we couldn't get the anchor to hold us in one place and we ended up grounded on a sandbank. We did get off it and found somewhere more sheltered and had a fish. It was raining heavily all the time and we had to keep throwing bucketloads of water out of the boat.
We went on a walk to a lake in the rainforest yesterday which was supposed to be a nice gentle walk. It ended up being 2 hours of getting bitten by mosquitoes and leeches and the lake wasn't even that nice when we got there. There was a isgn at the beginning of the walk warning about snake safety as well. There are death adders, eastern brown snakes and python in that area but we didn't see any luckily.
There has been bad flooding just south of where we are and we have had some really heavy rain. There are flood warnings and rough sea conditions all the way down the coast but it looks like we are out of it now. Its been sunny and warm today so I hope it lasts for our 4WD safari.
